Episode 1: Why Pittsburgh?

In this episode of Bungalow we explore the gems of Pittsburgh through the lens of CMU students by asking if they have any favorite spots they recommend. We received a variety of answers spanning all parts of the greater city of Pittsburgh and decided to give one of them a try. We visited Dobra Tea, located in Squirrel Hill. An ever growing neighborhood in Pittsburgh, Squirrel Hill consists of a predominantly white and asian population and a large Jewish community. We can see the melting pot of cultures come to life in Dobra Tea, a cafe or self proclaimed “tea room” for people from all parts of the world. The cafe makes use of the commonality between all these cultures: their love for tea! Visitors can taste a myriad of teas from China, Japan, India, Argentina, and even Ecuador! A multitude of varieties exists, including hot teas, cold teas, and even bubble tea! The menus at the restaurant also provide, in enticing detail, the preparation of each dish and tea as well as information about their local names and pronunciations. In the midst of Squirrel Hill sits a lucky find for us but a local favorite for many that brings to light all of the fascinating and delicious beverages from any part of the world you can think of.

Eatsburgh Episode 1: Girasole "Girasole is the word for 'sunflower' in Italian, and is the family surname. Like the sunflower, Girasole traverses time, blending the old with the new."  In Episode 1, Eatsburgh introduces you to a family-owned Italian restaurant located in Shadyside, Pittsburgh. Walking into the small building almost hidden from the side street, we entered a lively, vibrant and packed space, and there, we met its welcoming owner, Jimmy Girasole.  The Girasole family opened the restaurant in 2000. Inspired by his beloved daughter, the father bought the building, created the menu and wishing to bring the most authentic Italian food to the Pittsburgh community.  The food offered were also the family's favorite dishes, not from just one area, but a fusion of Northern and Southern Italian styles.
